Isabella Skurbe, Quality Control Specialist, Equipment Financing
“I've been at Apex for four months now – and almost coming up on a year being with Firstrust in general. My father has always been in residential mortgages so that's what piqued my interest in the whole banking and financial industry. Also, I really like organization, numbers, and analyzing things – and that works perfectly in the finance industry. I started in Customer Service at Firstrust. I liked that I got a variety of tasks. It wasn't just one thing all day long. I got to do some back-office work, and then I got to talk to people – it was a big mixture. I really liked that. And everyone there was very welcoming – my boss, my superiors, all my colleagues. They were all great to work with.
Your experience with Apex Commercial Capital:
So, I was looking for an opportunity for growth early on because I wanted more of a challenge. It came up pretty quickly – very quickly – and it was a perfect fit. So, I interviewed, and I liked what I heard. I guess Apex liked what they heard as well – and it's worked really well. I like that there's a lot of opportunity for growth here. That was very evident to me.
I also really like how the teams here at Apex are balanced. I've noticed in each department someone's really good at one thing, and another person's really good at another thing, and it balances out. That's nice because you can quickly figure out exactly who to go to because you know who knows what.
Your role and responsibilities at Apex Commercial Capital as a Quality Control Specialist:
“In my role, I need to have a basic understanding of what sales does, what credit does, and what the documentation team does. I have to understand how it gets to me because I'm the last person in line – so once it gets to me, I review the deal. If anything looks odd about it or if something needs to be fixed or a new stipulation comes out, I review it with my team. If there's anything that needs to be changed, I send it back to the other teams. If not, we proceed with funding the broker and vendor. We also do UCC filings – so when those come in, I take care of some of the back-office work. There are other things I do, but basically, I review the deals for accuracy, fund the deal, and send out the remittance summaries – saying, “Hey, we funded you!”
What is your favorite thing about your job, and why?
“I love analyzing contracts. That's basically what I'm doing all day – looking at contracts. I really like problem-solving, the aspect of problem-solving – when I have to look into something further and analyze it. That’s really fun to me.”
What would you say is your favorite thing about working for Apex Commercial Capital?
“I like that it's a small company. You know everyone, and everyone's friendly. It's not like you turn the corner and you have no clue of the name of the person you're looking at. So that's really nice.”
What are some of your favorite things to do outside of work?
“Fishing, surfing, line dancing, spending time with family, and going to the beach.”
